SONORA, TX-- With their backs against the wall, the Sonora Broncos snapped their five-game skid with a 29-9 win over Comfort.

The win puts Sonora in fourth place in District 13-3A Division II with a 1-2 record and the head-to-head tiebreaker over Comfort.

The Broncos took to the ground in the win with senior Wesley Dutton and junior Wilson Johnson leading the charge.

Dutton carried the ball 20 times for 132 yards and three touchdowns. The senior QB also added 27 yards passing to his stats.

Johnson had 134 yards rushing and a touchdown on 11 carries.

Sonora jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a 55-yard run by Johnson and the subsequent 2-point conversion by Hunter Bunch.

A Comfort field goal made it 8-3 in the second and the teams would go to the locker room with that score.

However, Dutton broke the game open in the third quarter with an 80-yard touchdown run. Brandon Martinez’s extra point was blocked to make the score 14-3.

Comfort followed Dutton’s lead with a 71-yard touchdown run of their own. The Bobcats failed their two-point conversion to make it 14-9 in the third quarter.

Dutton closed out the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run in the third and an 11-yard touchdown run in the fourth to give Sonora their winning margin.

Sonora (3-5, 1-2) will travel to fifth place Johnson City (2-6, 1-2) next week with a chance to clinch a playoff spot.
