Sonora's Second Half Comeback Falls Short Against 4A Burnet

BURNET, TX-- The Sonora Broncos dropped their third-straight game in a 41-20 loss to the Burnet Bulldogs on Friday.


The Broncos were limited to just 230 yards of total offense in the loss. Brian Van Winkle and Wesley Dutton were held to negative 37 yards rushing in the loss.

Van Winkle completed 16 of 27 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown with an interception. Dutton also had a touchdown and an interception on 7 of 11 passing for 121 yards. He added another touchdown and 23 yards receiving.

Burnet held a 21-0 lead in the third quarter before Willie B Munoz took a Burnet kickoff 94 yards and a touchdown. Van Winkle found Dutton for a 5-yard touchdown pass. Dutton completed the two-point conversion pass to Dylan Taylor to pull Sonora within 21-14.

After another Burnet touchdown made it 27-14, Dutton and the Broncos responded with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Myles Wooton to pull back within one score.

However, Burnet put the clamps on the Broncos and posted 14 unanswered points to win 41-27.
