Brian Van Winkle threw for 281 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Class 3A Sonora Broncos to a decisive win over 4A Lamesa on Friday in Sonora.
Van Winkle completed only 14 of his 29 passes, but he averaged just over 20 yards per completion.
Wesley Dutton had six catches for 176 yards and two TDs -- in addition to five carries for 72 yards -- while Willie B. Munoz had two catches for 74 yards and two TDs. Brock Aschenbeck also had a TD catch.
JR Velasquez led Sonora's ground game with 14 carries for 128 yards.
Sonora jumped out to a 34-3 lead by halftime.
The Broncos improved to 2-0, while Lamesa fell to 1-1. Sonora will play next week at Mason.
